Highlights of the 30 grants to large and mid-sized arts and culture organizations include:
1. $100,000 increase for the Musical Bridges program of the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance (in addition to renewing the $20,000 annual grant). This one-time leadership and sustainability grant recognizes the hard work of the Conservatory to provide one-on-one musical training and other experiences to promising 6th-12th grade student musicians from the Kansas City metro urban core. This program creates additional opportunities, or the “bridge” often needed, to succeed in the performing arts.
2. $50,000 for KCPT’s efforts to reach out to a broader audience through enhanced use of social media. Audience development is a primary vehicle to stabilize and grow funding that supports increased local programming, a priority of the organization, including coverage of arts and culture.
The Foundation continued the $250,000 annual Small Arts Grant Fund supporting small arts groups and community-based arts programs. The Small Arts Committee recommended and the Board approved 47 grants contributing toward a diverse and vibrant arts scene in the region.
